It is sometimes hilarious and unbelievable when parents use the visit to the dentist reason as a disciplinary action for their children who don t follow their rules. They tell their kids if they don t behave, they ll be brought to the dentist s clinic and have their teeth checked and operated on. This has a negative effect on most children and this causes them to feel that going to the dentist s clinic for a checkup or anything dentist related is scary and painful. As young as they are told, they will remember this scary feeling until they grow up. They feel they should be avoiding the dentist because any association with the dentist means pain and an unpleasant experience.
Avoiding the dentist should not be because of reasons like beings scared of the dentist but it should be because one is really taking care of his teeth and mouth. There is a big difference of not wanting to go to the dentist even when badly needed just because of some wrong notion about the dentist as opposed to not going to the dentist because there really is no reason for one to go there except for regular visits and checkups. But if a person really needs or wants to avoid the dentist s chair; here are some positive reinforcements.
The main goal is to prevent tooth decay because this tooth problem is what brings us to the dentist s clinic. So it is imperative that when we eat food, especially those that contain carbohydrates, we should make sure that food particles left on our teeth are cleaned so that they don t accumulate bacteria. Bacteria when combined with our saliva, acid and food debris create plaque. Plaque contains acids that melt down our teeth s enamel and this act causes the teeth to have holes called cavities.
Brushing your teeth at least two times a day is a great way of avoiding the dentist. It is advisable to brush the teeth once in the morning and once before going to bed. The brushing of teeth in the morning kills germs and bacteria that have accumulated in our mouths while we were asleep, while brushing before going to bed eliminates ingredients that will create bacteria and germ build up while we sleep.
Regularly using a dental floss to clean in-between the teeth is advisable. This will help the in-between of your teeth become free from dirt thus making the teeth healthy.
A balanced diet filled with nutritious meals and fewer snacks can help build stronger teeth. This is because nutritious food supplies the teeth with the proper amount of calcium – making it stronger to fight against tooth decay. Also, eating too much carbohydrate like candy and chips means leaving more food residue on the teeth.
Drink water with fluoride every day. It is advisable to take at least a pint of this water every day for healthier teeth and gums.
Visit and always consult your dentist for anything you want done on your teeth.
